Northeast College Prep Family News - September 20th

I’m excited to share that we’re partnering with the Bellwether Organization to develop NECP's next strategic plan. A school's strategic plan serves as it's primary guiding document for a period of 3-5 years.

Bellwether is a national nonprofit organization focused on helping schools and networks be most effective in their work. They also did a similar process with NECP about 5-6 years ago.

As an initial part of this process, Bellwether team members will be visiting our school on Monday, September 23rd as they learn about our school program to inform the strategic plan. Below is some additional context regarding the school visit:

After their initial observations are completed, there will be opportunities for families to give input in this process. Please watch for future updates if you would like to be involved in this planning process.

Join us for Family Connection Night next Thursday, September 26 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. This event is designed to strengthen the partnership between our school and families. The Leadership Team will meet with parents to discuss important updates, share school goals, and listen to your valuable input. It’s a great opportunity to connect, ask questions, and collaborate on ways to support our students’ success. We look forward to seeing you there!

This night’s main focus is a Parent Meeting that starts right at 6:10 pm, with meetings in English, Spanish, and Somali (Arabic translation will be available upon request). Be there at 6:00, drop your students off in their classrooms, and then join the Parent Meeting until 7:00. Plan to bring younger children or older siblings to the Parent Meeting with you, they will not be able to join their siblings in classrooms. Limited childcare will be available for three to four year old children.

Thank you for your support with getting students to school on time. When students arrive on time, they get to eat breakfast with their friends, settle in, and start the day calm and focused. Dropping off between 7:20 and 7:30 is the best way to make that happen. Thank you!

Northeast College Prep is looking for a Reading Tutor for the 2024-25 school year beginning October 21st. You can take action in our community by giving your time and talent to help students build their skills and confidence!

Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with students during school hours throughout the school year. Whether you are a recent grad, career changer, stay-at-home parent or retiree, you can make a great tutor! No experience? No problem. With training and on-site coaching, our tutors are prepared to help kids succeed.

Part-time or full-time is available starting October 21st. Tutors receive a stipend every two weeks plus up to an additional $3600 for college tuition or loans (tutors 55+ may gift the education award to their child, grandchild, stepchild or foster child).

Middle School Students may no longer carry water bottles to class with them. There are drinking fountains right outside of their classroom door for them to use, and water bottles have become a distraction in class.

NECP is excited to partner with Every Meal again this year to offer a free weekend food program to all our students. Students who are enrolled in this program will receive a 4-5 pound bag of nutritious, nonperishable food each week. This program is open and free for all families and anyone can enroll.

We are still accepting applications for students to attend Northeast College Prep for the 2024-2025 school year! Applications can be found on our website and are available in English, Spanish, Somali, and Arabic.
